Weekly Wrap Up- Jan 18th to 24th
Hello Dragons,
How has your week been? Did you read anything good? It’s been a rather intense week for me but I got a good amount of reading in, to keep myself sane. If only I could count a good chunk of the articles I have to read for school as a book I’d be well on my way to being on target with my Goodreads goal. I am still a little behind on it but hope to catch up this upcoming week. I also hope that I can get through my January TBR...but honestly, it does not look likely.
Alright Dragons, without further ado here are the books I read last week.
Breath of Fire by Amanda Bouchet- Rating 10/10- This book was so good. Seriously it was amazing. I had a few doubts right at the beginning but as soon as our characters communicated I was in and my god was it worth it. This is the second book in the trilogy, so I don’t want to spoil it. Needless to say, this is a fantasy romance. Our heroine Cat has hidden and is living at a circus as a Fortune Teller when our hero Griffin finds her and kidnapped her using a magical rope. If that isn’t a set up I can get behind I dont know what this. This of course was the summary of the beginning of the first book. Go read it and come back to talk to me about it.
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas- Rating 9/10- Oh it was good to reread this book. It’s been ages since I read this. I originally read it when the book came out so it’s been some time. I forgot how much fun it was. I know there is an awful lot of hype for this book, and I agree that it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I loved every minute. This book is told in the first person, and you get pulled into the narrator’s voice right away. Say what you will about Feyre she has a strong personality. The book is an interesting mix of various fairytales cobbled together into something new. I quite loved all the stories creating something new, in addition to the complex mythology of the world. I’m very glad Sarah is continuing on with the series and expanding the world.
A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer- 10/10- This was a reread because that’s what I do ladies and gentlemen. I reread books. But this is all because I plan to proceed with the series in the upcoming months. The third book came out on the 26th. This book is such a good spin on Beauty and the Beast. You all know it’s my favorite. I have a full review up for this book so I will keep it brief here. I just want you all to go get this book, and read it. Okay, thanks, bye.
The Fork, the Witch, and the Worm by Christopher Paolini- Rating 8/10- I missed this world. As you know I just finished my reared of the Inheritance Cycle in December, and I needed a fix of this world and these characters. This book was so great to have, I just wish it gave us a little bit more on certain aspects of the storylines left dangling. Like did anyone else get a dragon to hatch for them? Like please give me another rider. I’m not asking for much. I also just think that the last story within the story was a little too long, but I can forgive it because it gave us a lot of insight into a certain culture. Now if I could only get a date or even information about the next book to feed my addiction.
My Last Duchess by Eloisa James- Rating (/10- This was a prequel novella to James’ series I wanted to read. I like prequels being read first because they give me a lot of insight into what follows… which now that I think about it is exactly the point and I am having a moment. Anyway, this is a series of 18th-century romances and I had an absolute blast reading this. The premise is simple, one duke with an abundance of children needs a wife. He goes to London intending to be sensible but instead, he falls madly in love at first sight. I loved this. I also loved that both the characters acknowledge that there is something there even though they don’t know each other just yet. I would have been happier if it was longer so I took some points away.
Wilde in Love by Eloisa James- Rating 8/10- This is the first official book in the series and oh my god I had a great time. I can’t give it full points once again because the heroine was rather difficult to deal with. She just… my god get over yourself. But overall she was great and fun, and smart, and put together as a person. She just could not let go of her definition of what she wants even as she did everything to get what she actually wanted. I hope this is making sense because I am not talking about specifics due to spoilers. The hero I liked very much. He was fun, he learned from his own life, and he didn’t lie to himself. Add an element of a crazy person and a bough (which terrifies me because I am legally blind and color blind so I would drown right away if I was stuck in there) and this book gave me life.
Alrighty Dragons, This is it for last week. I feel like I read a decent amount even though two of the books were technically novellas. It’s okay though. I have a week of big books ahead. We shall see how many of them I read. We will also see how much of my TBR I will get through. TBR is not my friend. In fact, I think it hates me.
See you soon,
Anna
