New Releases for Tuesday January 26th (That I'm All About)
Hello Dragons and Assorted Others,
Today I am sharing with you a quick list of books coming out next Tuesday (January 26th). Personally, I always enjoy a good list, and the more books I can talk about the better. For my personal happiness at least. This is a short list because I was truly trying to be as selective as possible in my choices. I only put books on here that made me think Ohhhhhhh I can’t wait.
I hope you enjoy my selections:
A Vow So Bold and Deadly (Cursebreakers #3) by Brigid Kemmerer- Let’s be honest, I am a sucker for a Beauty and the Beast retelling of any kind. It’s one of my favorite stories and any book with even a hint of that premise makes it onto my TBR. This is the final book in a trilogy, so no spoilers will be had. I read the first book, and have put off reading the second because I knew the wait would be torturous. The story follows Harper, a girl from our world, who is kidnapped and taken into the “beast’s” castle in hopes that she will be able to break the curse. To top it off this is the last time our beast will have a shot a breaking free. There is a lot more to the story of course, but I can assure you that all the characters are interesting and you bond with them. The kidnapping makes for some complicated dynamics. Also, can we talk about those covers? How beautiful are those?
A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes- Madeleine Miller blurbed this book. Do I really need to say more? I do? Okay fine. The story focuses on the woman of the mythological Trojan war, although it’s not as mythological as some think. There is evidence a war happened. There is no evidence the gods were involved. The three goddesses who started the whole thing are present in this book. So are the women of Troy. I read “The Trojan Women” by Euripides for a class and have been fascinated with their fates ever since. Warning: do not look into this play if you are not ready for some seriously dark things. The book also involves Penelope waiting for Odysseus all this time. I think this one will make me cry. I’m fully prepared for this eventuality.
The Mask Falling (The Bone Season #4) by Samantha Shannon- Confession time, I have not even read the first book. Before you abandon this post in disgust hear me out. I heard about the series when the third book came out and soon started hearing noises of a cliffhanger. I was not hearing rumors of a release date. Now we have a date! The plan is to read these books this year. I will probably get angry with myself about that decision, and about saying it here. If you don’t know these books are a fantasy/futuristic/ dystopian mashup. The story follows Paige, a dream walker in a criminal empire. Our girl gets kidnapped and transported to Oxford to be trained by a man with mysterious motives. I am easy and so this is all I need to know about the book to want to read it. All four books have been getting great reviews so I have faith that I will love them.-
Written in Starlight (Woven in Moonlight #2) by Isabel Ibañez- This is not a sequel, this is a companion novel. Ibanez published her first book last year, it was inspired by Bolivian history, politics, and culture. But fantasy. I am all for diverse fantasy that will introduce me to different cultures. Our main character is out for revenge and can spit thread from moonlight. The second book takes place in the same world but follows a different character who is on a quest to find a mysterious lost city. Quests are almost as great as revenge.
Wings of Ebony (Wings of Ebony #1) by J. Elle- Here we have a debut novel! How exciting! This one is urban fantasy. It’s interesting that Urban fantasy si coming back after disappearing for a while from the YA world. Our main character lives in Huston until her mother is brutally murdered and she learns that she is a half goddess. Her unknown father whisks her away to the god realm but she is forced to leave her sister behind, which does not go over well with our heroine. I have high hopes for this one It songs right up my alley. In addition, it is an Own Voices novel. It’s good to see some books by people of color start to get the attention and marketing they deserve. This is the only way to ensure books like this reach a wide audience.
Alright my Book Devouring Dragons, here are some books hitting the shelves this week for you. I narrowed it down to books I have very high hopes for. As much as I would like to include some thrillers I have lost my faith in them. I have been disappointed so much last year that I don’t want to get my hopes up for anything with the words “gripping” or “suspenseful” on the cover.
I hope you enjoyed this little post, and hopefully, I put some new books on your radar. The goal is to do this every week. I say hopefully as I nervously drink my giant mug of coffee. But goals are good for you!
See you all next time,
Anna the Stressed Dragon
