October TBR (What am I thinking)

October TBR (What am I thinking)

Hello Book Dragons!

Today I want to share with you my very ambitious reading list for October. Part of the reason I want to read so much is that Goodreads is judging me for being behind on my challenge. This is the first time I have been behind on the challenge, usually I up it. But since this year we had the Reading Slump of Doom happen I am behind, and so I will at least try to catch up.

Below are the books I plan to read in October. I might change some of it up a bit, just because I am not sure about some of the books on the list. We shall see. For now, here it is.

  1. The Winds of War by Herman Wouk- I promised I would read it. So I have to read it. So far, roughly seventy pages in, I have not had fun. The story is unnecessarily long and overwritten. The majority of the characters are misogynists. I am not a fan. Maybe it will

  2. The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson- I cannot believe I have not read this book yet. I read a bunch of short stories by Shirley Jackson and her book We Have Always Lived in the Castle, but somehow I never got around to this one. I know I will be creeped out, so I am reading it in October. It is a very short book and so should go by quickly. I need to offset the above mountain of pages.

  3. Crown of Midnight by Sarah J Maas- I am moving along with the series. It sucked me in and now I don’t want to stop. I know if I let myself slow down I will once again abandon it in favor of their books.

  4. Heir of Fire by Sarah J Maas- I am going for it. I want to read more than one book because I hope I can finish the series before the end of the year. If I divide them up properly I should be able to do it.

  5. Golden Son by Pierce Brown- book two here I come. As I said, got to keep that series momentum going. If I stop I will put it off again. This series is so dark that it fits with my October Theme. I loved the first book, and I want to know what happens to my murder babies.

  6. A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab- the series trend continues. I hope it continues at least. The series has been set up beautifully in the first book and so I fully expect the stakes to be so much higher in the second book. I have not read this one. I read the first one and put off reading the rest of the series. So this year we are following through on what we start.

  7. The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab- I will not hold off on reading this book. I know it comes out the first week of October, but I feel like I have been waiting on it for so long. I need to have this story in my head. I am ready to cry over it.

  8. Tunnel of Bones by Victoria Schwab- I am reading a lot of Schwab this month, but she is so good that it is worth it. This one is a middle grade so I feel like I am getting some variety into the reading list. This one is set in Paris, and I am ready for it. Paris has done a lot of messed up things in its time so it’s perfect for a spooky book.

  9. The Toll by Neal Schusterman- I have to know what happens next. I am very nervous. I do not trust Neal Schusterman further than I can throw him, and I cannot throw him very far. I just don’t know what to expect. Probably tragedy.

  10. The Castle of Otranto by Horace Walpole- There is a helmet that crushes someone to death. I must read this. I have been meaning to for a while, but of course, never got around to it. Walpole also built his idea of a gothic castle for himself, and I must read a book of a crazy man like that. I think his descendent or ancestor was the prime minister as well. I am not sure which direction the family tree goes.

  11. Before the Devil Break You by Libba Bray- I must know what happens. It is as simple as that. I am very worried about all my children. They are currently an absolute disaster. I spend the majority of the second book screaming, and fully expect this trend to continue.

  12. The Shadows by Alex North- was this on my list for September? I honestly do not know. I read North’s other book last month and was properly scared so I have hopes for this one but a friend rated it mediocre, so I shall see what I think in the end. It’s only fair to give it a shot.

  13. Dracula by Bram Stalker- I have to read this thing. I have read the first hundred pages years ago and for some reason put it down. I think it was because school kicked into high gear and I just never found the time to go back to it. This seems like a perfect time to put it on the list and read it. I hope it’s atmospheric to the absolute maximum.

  14. The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde- I have read this before. It was five years ago. I loved it. I felt like I deserve a treat in October. I also like to see how my thinking bout certain stories changes with time. I do this for science. Science I tell you.

  15. One by One by Ruth Ware- I have considered putting it off until wintertime, but as I am going back and forth about making my decision I will put it on the list. In case I read it great, I had it on the list so I didn’t break the TBR. if I don’t read it, well it has happened before so it’s not the end of the world.

  16. Shadow Kissed by Richelle Mead- let the series reading continue. I feel so accomplished the more into a series I get, and the more series I read. This one fits October pretty well because of what happens to it. I am not spoiling that here. But man I cried so much. This book was one of my first big gotcha books. I sobbed like a child and lost my mind while waiting for the next one.

  17. Brisingr by Christopher Paolini- Dragons!!! Here be Dragons and here be I, on my way to read about them. This series is so good. I am still waiting for that art but in the meantime, I am having a blast.

  18. Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi- this is a book for school Having said that, I have owned it since it came out and have been meaning to read it just as long. I am finally being forced to read it by School. And they said School never does anything for you. I paid money to be told to read this.

  19.  Aristotle and Dante Discover the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz- This is another one I am paying to read. I just checked my syllabus and it is on the schedule for October so it’s going on here because if I put it here it is more real to me.

  20. Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury- I have not read this. It has something called the Autumn People in it. Ergo, I must read it. It sounds perfect for October. What else would I do with a book like this?

Alright, Dragons. That is twenty books. Maybe it’s an ambitious number considering that many of them are long, but I tried to balance it out with short quick reads. I am also continuing with a lot of series and I am proud of myself for that. Series have notoriously defeated me over and over so it is good to see that I can defeat them if I just get stubborn enough about it.

I hope you enjoyed my little list. I always have fun making a monthly plan. Let’s hope I stick to it.

I will see you all again tomorrow, with my list of October releases. Those posts are so time-consuming but I have a lot of fun making them so I keep at it. But that is why the list is arriving on the 3rd, and not the1st.

Anna
