October Book Releases to Keep a Dragon Eye On
Hello book Dragons.
Here we are again, at the beginning of the month. All new books are coming out and as has become my tradition I am making a huge list of releases I am looking forward to.
This time around I don’t have a whole lot of thrillers, I am not sure why. I just didnt feel the pull towards them like I usually do. It feels strange and like I did not make this list inclusive enough… but I am going forward with this anyway because it is my list.
I also started feeling rather depressed while I was writing this list. There are just so many books and I can only read so many. I am of course so happy that the book world is doing well, I just am personally exhausted by chasing all the books and knowing I will never read all of them. Well, I am depressing myself even more now.
Quickly let’s get into the list before things get worse. I numbered it this time to know how many books are on it.
Kingdom of Sea and Stone by Mara Rutherford
Release Date: October 6th, 2020
We start with a sequel per usual. This is a second in a series. I am not sure how long the series is. It might just be a duology, but I honestly do not know. It sounds beautifully creepy for October. This one is about mermaids y’all. I don’t know a whole lot, because I like to go into my books as blind as possible but I think this one sounds great. And, as the sequel is coming out, it deserves a spot on this list.

Over the Woodward Wall by A. Deborah Baker
Release Date: October 6th, 2020
Okay first of all this is a pseudonym. The author is Seanan McGuire, the author of many a whimsical masterpiece. This one promises me talking trees and sarcastic owls. I am easily bribed and will happily read about these things. I believe this is a middle-grade novel, thus explaining the pen name. I am sure I will like this book as I liked her other books and if I liked other books this usually carries through consistently even if the author is writing in new genera.

Return of the Thief by Megan Whalen Turner
Release Date- October 6th, 2020
Oh my, oh my, oh my. This is a conclusion to a series I have been reading since 2007. Can you believe that? The author took her time writing these books, but she still did better than a certain George I will not name because I do not want to be sued. But here it is the final book in the series. What I love about these books is that they are technically separate stories but they build upon each other. Every book brings something to the world, it flushes out the characters, or it gives a different perspective on an issue we thought we knew all about. The world is inspired by Ancient Greece and the main focus is their conflict with an empire that is equivalent to Persia. And the main focus is Eugenides, even if he is not telling the story. He is my spirit animal.

The Archive of the Forgotten by A.J. Hackwith
Release Date: October 6th, 2020
Once again we have a sequel. I promise eventually we will get to first book sand stand-alone books. Maybe. This series is called Hell’s Library. I mean I have to read it. The library is made up of unfinished books. Sometimes the characters wander out. I once again have tried to stay away from spoilers. All I needed to know about it was what I wrote here. That’s why I include the Goodreads links for you all.

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab
Release Date: October 6th, 2020
I have been waiting for this book since 2016 when I heard V.E. Schwab talk about it on a podcast. She described it as a story about a girl who made a deal with the devil and has lived her immortal life being forgotten by everyone except for him. I fell in love right away. The love has endured and now finally I am going to get my greedy little (currently frozen) paws on this book. It sounds like such a beautifully atmospheric story. I have a sneaking suspicion it will make me cry like crazy. I will be picking this one up in October because I have waited long enough.

We Were Restless Things by Cole Nagamatsu
Release Date: October 6th, 2020
I truly believe October 6th is trying to kill me. All the books are coming out that day. Deep breaths. This one sounds rather creepy. A year ago a boy drowned on dry land and now his best friend is trying to make sense of it. Also, there are creepy notes. The book promised me multiple POVs and a dream journal as well. I am very intrigued. If you ever heard the story of Who Put Bella in the Witch Elm, then you will know what kind of vibes I am getting from this story so far. Of course, this one is supernatural but the creepy vibes are the same.

A Golden Fury by Samantha Cohoe
Release Date: October 13th, 2020
This one sounds fascinating. It follows a hopeful alchemist who together with her mather is so close to creating the Philosopher’s Stone. Then her mother destroys it for a reason. The story takes place right around the French revolution (yikes), and so our heroine gets sent to Oxford. Everything about this sounds like a recipe for a fantastic book. I have high hopes. And the setting guys!Oxford! Ahhhhh!

Beyond the Ruby Veil by Mara Fitzgerald
Release Date: October 13th, 2020
Alright everyone, let’s buckle up. This book takes place in a world where water is made out of the blood of sacrificed people. The people have a mark on them to indicate they should be sacrificed. Our heroine did not turn herself in to be slaughtered. How dare she right? When she gets exposed during her wedding she kills the person about to sacrifice her and runs away to figure out how to get water to a country that always relied on blood to live. Phew. I am already stressed. Also, it’s supposed to be queer. So we shall see.

Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse
Release Date: October 13th, 2020
I know I say this about every book because I feel like that, but this book sounds amazing. It is a fantasy inspired by the PreColumbian civilizations of the Americas and deals with prophecies, politics, and forbidden magic. In essence, it has all the things that make a book worth reading. I have been meaning to read the other books by this author, but have somehow not gotten around to it yet. One day I will read all the books. It will happen.

Lightbringer by Claire Legrand
Release Date: October 13th, 2020
Okay, I am so sorry but this is a conclusion to another series. I am drowning in series. You all can come with me. I am not sinking alone. I have heard amazing things about this series. It is complicated, with magic, and duel timelines and stuff. I don’t want to go into stuff here but there is stuff.

The Once and Future Witches by Alix E Harrow
Release Date: October 13th, 2020
The cover for this is amazing. I don’t know what it is about it but I just love it. The title is also perfect. I heard great things about it. It takes place in 1893 and deals with a group of woman who wants to become witches and get the right to vote. I have the right to vote (go, vote guys, an save us all) but I also would like to become a witch. I would like some powers. Manifesting free books would be great.

The Puppetmaster’s Apprentice by Lisa DeSelm
Release Date: October 13th, 2020
When I read the description, I screamed. Take that as you will. This book is described as a mixture of Frankenstein and Pinnochio. If you read the original story of Pinocchio you know just how creepy that is. Now combine it with Frankenstein. I want to know what you get. The story is already creeping me out and I have not read a single page of it.

Rebel Sisters by Tochi Onyebuchi
Release Date: October 20th, 2020
Say hello to another sequel. This one is a futuristic sci-fi story set in Nigeria. . Honestly I do not know too much about it per my usual MO. I just know that it caught my eye and I have kept it on my reading list since. I like futuristic stories because they show the world what could happen to it. Nothing is too far fetched.

Crazy Stupid Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams
Release Date: October 27th, 2020
There is a cat on the cover. I am in. there is a cat cafe. I am in. This is the third book in a series, that I have not read, but will. They sound really cute and I have only heard good things. I haven’t read a lot of romantic comedies lately but will hopefully fit them in soon. We are in the fall, I want spooky. Maybe once November hits, I will want cozy instead.

Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco
Release Date: October 27th, 2020
I have at least four copies of this book coming. I need it. I need it in my greedy paws. I am so jealous of the people who got ARCs. I loved Kerri’s other series (i have finished it), and so I know I will love this one too. It is about witches and demons. I have also been promised a lot of food descriptions to make me hungry. Please give it to me. I can’t stand this waiting.

The Ghost Variations: One Hundred Stories by Kevin Brockmeier
Release Date: October 6th, 2020
I am a fan of ghost stories. I just prefer to read about them, vs watch them. This book provides so many small stories. I am okay with getting a small bite of each and moving on to the next one. This sounds like a fun quick read that puts no pressure on you to read it in one sitting.

Cinders and Sparrows by Stefan Bachmann
Release Date: October 13th, 2020
I found another middle grade that sounds great. This one begins when a scarecrow climbs over a garden wall and delivers a letter to ur heroine telling her she inherited a castle. Well, first of all, I want a caste. Second of all, I do not want to get the news from a scarecrow. I am terrified of scarecrows. I mean that is their purpose.
God Storm by Coco Ma
Release Date: October 20th, 2020
Sequels have returned. This is the second book in a series. There is a monster and someone has to hunt it down. No one has ever returned who has gone after it. Well, color me intrigued. What is this thing? Who can defeat it? Guess I have to read the book to find out.

How the Multiverse Got Its Revenge by K Eason
Release Date: October 27th, 2020
Another final book in a duology. It is a mixture of fairy tale tropes and space opera tropes. I love space when you don’t throw too much science at me. Just throw enough so that I can kind of see the science part. Kind of, I dont need a lot. This one sounds like a great humorous read as well. I should read it.

The Twelve Dates of Christmas by Jenny Bayliss
Release Date: October 13th, 2020
This sounds like fun. I am a fan of books set in England because for some reason England and Scotland feel like home. I have no ancestors in that area of the world. We very polish over here. But I just love the atmosphere there. This could be a great fun relaxing read. I will enjoy the setting at least.

The Devil and the Dark Water by Stuart Turton
Release Date: October 6th, 2020
The summary sound very good. There is a murder on the high seas. A demon that may or may not exist. A detective duo. One of the characters is accused of a crime he might not have committed. There is a lot of “might” in the summary. Oh, and it takes place in 1634… just to add some flavor.

I love gothic tales, dark academia, and humor. If you put them together you get this book. Atl east it sounds like you get this book. There is a curse on a boarding school for girls and some other stuff too. I don’t know. I’ll read it without knowing.

A Tower of Nero by Rick Riordan
Release Date: October 6th, 2020
I can’t believe I almost forgot to put this on the list! I am no worried about myself. Granted writing this has been a process per usual, but to forget a Riordan book? I need more coffee. This is a conclusion in Riordan’s Trials of Apollo Series and I loved it. I am very worried about the characters. Deeply worried. I think readers have challenged Uncle Rick and if I were him I would not take kindly to being challenged. But, I hope he will show mercy.

The Broken WIsh by Julie C Dao
Release Date: October 6th, 2020
Julie C Dao likes her villain origin stories. This one sounds like it could be a villain origin story. Our heroine has the power to see the future and becomes an apprentice to a witch after she sees something disturbing. I have questions.

Tristan Strong Destroys the World by Kwame Mbalia
Release Date: October 6th, 2020
Another book in the Rick Riordan presents Imprint. They are usually very good. This is the second one in a series. I have not read the first one but I won it. It looks at me reproachfully from the shelf. This series deals with African mythology, which I know very little about. I have a book on it. I have not read that book either.

In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren
Release Date: October 6th, 2020
We have another holiday romance coming out in October. What is it with all the Christmas books coming out during the Haloween season? Well, it’s coming out in October and going into my December book list. I refuse to read Christmas things before Haloween. I refuse.

Alright, here we are. These are some of the books I am excited about in October. It is a pretty good list, despite my sudden hatred for thrillers. I honestly don’t know what is wrong with me. Maybe I am just tired as I have been writing this all day, and researching it for about a week. I am also cold.
I hope these lists are useful to all of you. I know they are useful to me. I have an overview of the month and I can keep in mind what books to keep an eye out for. Putting them together is just a lot of work.
See you all on Monday My Dragons
