April TBR

April TBR

Okay, so we all know how my February reading plans turned out and that March was the equivalent of a disaster on so many levels, but I have hope that if I try again it will go better. So here we are, and here I am writing a TBR list for April with the best of intentions. I always have the best of intention when it comes to anything but my brain, on the other hand, is plain evil and will most likely take me down. Regardless, let us proceed!

Onwards my friends!

  1. Caraval by Stephanie Garber- it’s time to tackle this series. I have heard amazing things about it and I absolutely love the concept. A mysterious carnival? Mind-bending games? Sisterhood? Romance? Yes, please. In addition, all three books are out so I don’t have to wait for them to come out. Instead, they have to wait on my shelf for me to pick them up. That is how I take the power back!

  2. Cinder by Merissa Mayer- This one will be a reread. It’s time for another confession, I read the first three books in this series but never got around to reading the fourth book. I need to do that as one of my personal goals for myself is finishing the series. So I will reread the first three books and then read the final book. If I don’t I… well nothing. I’ll just keep looking at the books on my shelf guiltily.

  3. Crescent City: House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J Maas- I need to read this one before someone spoils me. People have no self-control anymore. Not that reading this book will be a hardship, the opposite I’m sure. It’s just that I have tried to keep myself as much in the dark about this one as I possibly could because I love to be surprised by books and my expectations are high.

  4. The Assasin’s Blade by Sarah J Maas- I will read this if it kills me. I promised myself. I promised myself I’ll reread this series and finish it off (No I haven’t read the last three books because I have problems.) Again it won’t be a hardship to read it, I already know I love this book, I just have to make myself do it. Why am I the way I am?

  5. Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman- What is my problem? I want to read this book. I keep staring at it. I keep talking to it. I keep taking it off my shelf and putting it back on said shelf. The first book was amazing, I want to read the next one. And yet I keep myself from doing so. Send help!

  6. The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller- I’m so excited. I’m so excited. I’m so excited. This book sounds amazing, it’s a Beauty and the Beast retelling, only the heroine is just as beastly as the hero. She plans to marry him and kill him for the crown. I already love her. I’m sure things will be much more complicated because how could they not be.

  7. The Two Lives of Lydia Bird by Josie Silver- I loved this author’s first book (One Day in December) and so when I saw that she was coming out with a second book I knew I wanted to read it. I don’t even care what it is about. But for your information, it’s about a girl who finds herself living two alternate lives after her fiancee dies. One where he’s dead, and the other where he’s still around. I want to know what happens.

  8. Ash Princess by Laura Sebastian- I got this book in a subscription box, so in 2018? The book sounded great, and then I never got around to it. I love the displaced royalty trope, and there is also forbidden magic in this book. What’s not to be excited about? In addition, its another completed series I have sitting on my shelves that I haven’t read.

  9. My Dark Venessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell- This book sounds so intriguing, yet I already know it will be difficult to read. This book explores a young woman’s complex relationship with her much older teacher at the age of fifteen, as well as the consequences of that relationship years later. It sounds like a very dark read, and I’m a little scared but I still want to read it.

  10. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jankins Reid- I only heard good things about this book. Only good things! My expectations are through the roof. Again, I did my best to try and keep myself in the dark about the details of the plot, so all I know is that the book chronicles the life of a fictional Golden Era Hollywood star named Evelyn Hugo. Also, I love the name Evelyn for some reason.

  11. The Witch’s Daughter by Paula Brackston-  This book follows an immortal witch who in her desperation to escape death in the Seventeenth Century made a deal with a warlock who has been hunting her through time in order to get paid. This is all I need to know. I want to read this book, now let’s all hope I listen to myself.

  12. The Shining by Stephen King- This will hopefully be a buddy read. Again, I’ve been meaning to read this book for ages but have not picked it up. So, if I have the motivation of a buddy read I will actually do it. I think everyone knows what this one is about, and if you don’t I have questions.

  13. The Iron Queen by Julie Kagawa- This is book three in the Iron Fey Series, and I intend to read it. This series is really fun, by no means perfect but really fun and I need some fun. Plus I really enjoy reviewing these books.

  14. The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan- I know, I know, I read this a million times (approximately) but I just love these books so much and enjoy them every single time and they never disappoint me. It’s like a book hug, they bring me comfort and joy. If you haven’t read them, please do. You will enjoy yourself.

  15. Smoke Bitten by Patricia Briggs- This is book thirteen (!) in the Mercy Thompson series and I can’t wait to read it. I always love these books but always want more when I finish. I wish they would come out faster. I understand I have unrealistic expectations but I’m needy and will not be changed. But Anna, I hear you ask, you want to read so many other books so why are you whining? Well, dear reader, I never said I was reasonable. This series takes place in a world where supernatural creatures have come into the light, and our main heroine is a shapeshifting coyote. I really love these books for their humor and fantastic characters as well as the complex mythology, including that of Native Americans. There aren’t nearly enough books that explore that area of mythology.

  16. The Darkest King by Gena Showalter- This is book fifteen in the Lords of the Underworld Series (I had to look up the number this time). It’s a paranormal romance series which I love. I highly recomend it if you are over eighteen and not opposed to sex, violence, and naughty language. If you are good with all those requirements, go read this series, it’s great.

  17. Rock Addiction by Nalini Singh- Okay, so I love Nalini Singh’s work. She is a phenomenal writer. I have yet to read her contemporary romance. I figure now is a good time to read them as I’m sure they will make me smile and we all need a smile right now. I just know this series focuses on a rock band as each member finds their Happily Ever Afer.

  18. The Bridge Kingdom by Danielle L. Jensen- I have no idea what this is about. I know it’s a fantasy romance, and that there are multiple kingdoms? I have also heard only amazing things about this book and the series in general, so I want to read it. I think I will love it. Sorry, I can’t tell you more about the plot.

  19. My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows- This one is a reread too. I absolutely loved this book and its companion novel. I laughed out loud when reading it. I almost never laugh out loud when reading a book. This is a collaboration between the three authors named above, in which they attempt to give famous Janes of history a happy ending. My Lady Jane is the story of Lady Jane Gray, also knows as The Nine Day Queen. In real life, she was crowned Queen of England at sixteen, then executed nine days later. Clearly she deserves a better ending to her story. In addition, the third book in the series is coming out this year and so I will treat myself to a reread in preparation.

  20. Spellhacker by M.K. England- all I know is that this book features a magical heist. I don’t need to know more, I love both magic and criminal activity with a passion (again I love it in theory only FBI), so this book sounds perfect. I also think it’s a standalone novel, which will cut down on the series pressure.

Alright ladies and gentlemen, here we are. I have ambitious plans for April and only marginal hopes of success, but it’s good to challenge oneself. I fully intend to challenge myself to stick to the list. I made up the list, I should be able to follow it. What are your reading plans for April? Or for the next day? Or for the next hour? Any plans? Let me know! I actually like talking about books.

I love you all, and thanks for joining.
