5 Exciting New Book Releases for Feb 23rd
Hello Book Lovers,
It is the day again, it is time to talk about some exciting new releases for the week. As always the process of finding these books was so interesting. I generally start off with a general idea of what I expect to put on the list, and end up with a completely different list by the time I am done. This is just making my TBR pile so much larger.
Quiet in Her Bones by Nalini Singh- I have loved all of Nalini’s books. This is her second thriller, and i fully expect to love it just as much I have loved everything elseThere is something in her writing that pulls me in, and makes me feel at home. No matter the story I’m reading I always feel like I am in the setting with the characters. It’s a real skill. New Zealand is such a unique setting that lends itself surprisingly well to a thriller atmosphere. I think this one will be a winner. Here is the link to the Goodreads page.
A Dark and Hollow Star by Ashley Shuttleworth- This book sounds like something I would love. It has a found family of misfit and queer fairy creatures who have to investigate a series of murders in order to stay alive. Sounds like nothing could go wrong, by which i mean everything could go wrong at any point in time. Is it wrong that I want things to go wrong as badly as possible and then watch them struggle to fix things before they all die? This book is my usual comfort zone of fantasy and I have really high hopes for it. Check out the detailed summary here
Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers- I love the idea of a classic RomCom trope but gay. The book follows a doctoral student who marries her wife one drunken night in Vegas. She struggles to figure out her life as she and her new wife fall in love. Everyone knows I love RomCOms, and I’m really hoping this book is exactly like that but with lesbians. I’m not trying to sound disrespectful, I'm trying to explain myself and I feel like I’m explaining everything wrong. I’m just happy that LGBTQA + stories are starting to also focus on the happy parts of life, and not just on the struggle of being Queer. Just go look at the Goodreads page here, instead of reading my ramblings.
The Upstairs House by Julia Fine- The premise of this book sounds fascinating. It focuses on a woman who just recently gave birth and has to struggle to adjust to her life with a baby while her husband is gone at work for most of the day. She starts to see ghosts, and believes her newborn daughter is in danger. I love this premise, not only is it creepy, it also can really dive into postmortem life and depression. I have really high hopes that this story will nicely tie in many layers of superficial horror and internal dread. There is really so much that can happen, and I hope it does. Here is the link to the Goodreads page for it, go check it out.
The Initial Insult by Mindy McGinnis- I originally was not all that interested in this premise, until certain words were spoken that made me gasp out loud. This book is inspired by Edgar Allen Poe, so you know it can get really dark. The story that the author seems to have used for inspiration especially is disturbing. I am here to see what can be done with this idea in a modern YA mystery/ thriller. I will hold off on telling you more but if you wish check out the Goodreads page here. This is also the first in a duloagy so i fully expect to have more questions than answers at the end of it.
Alright, this is it. Here are five more books for your reading consideration. There are always so many books coming out each week and so many of them sound so good. I am just trying to filter out some of the more interesting ones.
