September TBR (at least I have ambition)
Hello lovely book dragons and book mermaids, (you can be a creature of your choice today),
I am here to tell you about my ambitious reading plans for September. This list quickly grew longer and longer, and now that I think about it it was probably a bit too much. I am starting grad school next week, and I am worried about how well the reading mission will go when combined with the (graded) writing mission. Nevertheless, I am sticking to this TBR plan. I want to read all the books on the list, except for one. That one, however, is staying here because I promised I would read it. So I am reading it.
Without further ado, here is my TBR pile for September. Enjoy:
Blood & Honey by Shelby Mahurin- it’s finally here! This is the book I have been waiting for all year. It has been torture. By the time I post this, I most likely will have read this book. I am so excited about it. I have many worries about how this one will end and what my mental condition will be. Judging by the reactions of people who have gotten ARC’s, I will not be okay. I cannot wait.
Home Before Dark by Riley Sager- it is the spooky season (for me) and so this book seemed like the perfect choice. This book deals with a creepy house in the woods, childhood secrets, and possibly even ghosts. I read one book by Riley Sager before and enjoyed it, so my expectations are so high. I plan on reading all of his books eventually.
The Iron Knight by Julie Kagawa- This is the final book in the series and it needs to get read. I have been putting off the third book for so long that I am a little ashamed of myself but, as it finally got read in August it is time to move onto the fourth book. This one is from Ash’s POV so that will be a change. We shall see if it’s a good or a bad change.
Obsidio by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff- The final book in the Illuminae Files is calling my name. I have the physical copy and the audiobook ready to go. I have no excuse to put it off. Now we all hope I do not put it off. While I don’t want the series to end I also don’t want to live not knowing what happened to the characters I have grown to love and adore. Hopefully, they have a happy ending. I’m extremely nervous now.
City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab- did I mention we are in Spooky Season? Yes, we are. This book is a Middle Grade that follows a girl who can see ghosts. Her parents are the people who make those supernatural shows… you know the ones. And there she is seeing ghosts. The first book takes place in Edinburgh, Scotland, aka a place I desperately hope to live in one day. It is a short book, so it should be a quick read.
A Darker Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab- I started this series already. Thank I neve4r picked up the remainder of the books promptly so I just have to start all over again. That’s okay, this book is fabulous. We have multiple Londons, which is like my dream come true. We also have pirates and scary magic. The writing style also appeals to me.
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte- I have no excuse. I do not have an excuse. I have had two trusted friends tell me this book is amazing. I have had it sitting on my shelf for years now. I need to read it. I am a terrible English major. I have failed. Maybe if I read it I will regain a shred of credibility.
Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas- Since I succeeded with the first book in the series I need to keep the momentum going. I have read this one as well, but it was a long time since then. I also like to reread because I see a lot of the details I missed the first time around and I also spot the foreshadowing the authors put in.
Red Rising by Pierce Brown- Again, I have already read this one. I only read this one and not the sequels. I am a horrible person. I own all the books. They sit on my shelves and plot my murder. They have nothing else to do because they are not getting read. This is a SciFi saga and our main character Darrow goes through some stuff. I will not say more, because of spoilers.
The Winds of War by Herman Wouk- I am being forced into reading this. I promised a friend I would read it so I will. But I am not happy about it because I do not feel like being sad, and WWII is a sad time. I dont know too much about this book other than that it is a family saga taking place during WWII. Oh dear, the book scares me.
Frostbite by Richelle Mead- I forgot how good and how much fun this series was. I want to continue having fun. The Reading Slump From Hell is still hanging over my head so I don’t want to read too many things that might trigger a comeback. Angsty vampires and romance it is. Feel free to judge me.
Lair of Dreams by Libba Bray- I told you all: spooky season. I take it very seriously. The first book creeped me out. I mean it creeped me out. Naughty John and his song still haunt my dreams. If you don’t know this series takes place during the 1920s, which so far has turned out much better than the 2020s. Considering how the ’20s ended maybe that is a good thing. I do not need another Great Depression okay?
The Whisper Man by Alex North- A serial killer that lures you out by whispering at your window?! No thank you. I am very busy. Please try again in 150 years. I will be reading all the books until that day comes. Does this not sound super creepy? It does to me. Spooky Season continues. I was also told it’s a very quick read (hi Rue).
Forest of Souls by Lori M Lee- I was not going to read this one until closer to the release of the sequel but it just sounds and looks so good. I can’t help myself. Our main character goes on a quest to a creepy forest and finds friendships. I already love it. Also, the cover is a work of art and I want to say that I read the inside of the book as well as stared at it. Does anyone want to read it with me?
The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson- I love this book. I truly deeply love this book. It made me laugh out loud. I laughed so hard I cried. There is an elephant in it. The titular 100-year-old man has lived a life many should be jealous of and I want to be like him when I reach that age. Please read this one if you need a laugh.
Midnight Sun by Stephanie Meyer- I will finish it if it kills me.
Eldest By Christopher Paolini- Damn you FaeCrate. I read the first book in this series, and now I want to read the whole thing again. I am not sure why I like to reread books so much, but I do. I like going on the journey with the characters again, and seeing just how much work went into planning a series. This story is all about dragons and dragon riders. I love dragons. I want a dragon. I want a dragon over a giant library and that is saying something.
The Night Swim by Megan Goldin- A fictional true-crime podcast host gets involved in a cold case and metaphorically pokes the hornets’ nest. I think this is the secret dream of most true-crime podcast hosts. I like this premise, and this book is another one that seems like a really quick read. It should be fun.
Here we are. This is my ambitious reading list for September. I am a little worried I have overestimated my abilities and the time I have available for reading. Is anyone reading any of these books? What are you reading?
I will see you all soon, the schedule has been remade and is back to severe judgment upon my person.
