Book Releases For September I am Overexcited About
Hello Everyone and welcome to another display of crazy with Anna.
A quick technical note: for the life of me I could not format this post to fit the cover images. I will post them all on the bottom of the page. I apologize for my inaptitude.
Today we are going to go over some of the new releases for September 2020 I am most looking forward to. Once again this list is in no particular order. It is lacking any kind of organization whatsoever. Just like most of my life. So without further ado let’s take a look at some September releases.
As The Shadow Rises by Katy Rose Pool-
Release Date: September 1st, 2020
This is a sequel, so why am I starting this list off with it? I do not know. I do not know anything most of the time. I have not read the first book, but just the description of it and the sequel makes me want to read it. Also, do you guys see these covers? I am in love. These books are described as possessing some elements of Six of Crows and Graceling. So if you liked those things go check out the links for these books.
Blood and Honey by Shelby Mahurin-
Release Date: September 1st, 2020
This is the book I am the most excited for in September. I am sorry for all the other books on this list but this one is my number one. You guys do not want to know how insane I went over this one. I have eight special edition boxes preordered (two with books in them) and a copy preordered from a store. I am sick. I am a sick person. Please send me your support and not your contempt. It’s a sickness. Probably witch caused. Ahem, yes this is the second book in a trilogy and I cannot wait. I read the first book twice (go me), and I am ready. There are witches and they are fascinating and terrifying, There are witch hunters, who are equally fascinating and terrifying. And there is a forced marriage between a witch and a witch hunter. Go read it. Seriously go read it.
Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas-
Release Date: September 1st, 2020
So this is a queer Latinx book and I am here for it especially since it involves ghosts and Latinx mythology and all the cool things that make books worth reading. I am not a huge fan of reading detailed blurbs, so I skimmed, and that was enough for me to be interested in this book. Also if I read it correctly this book deals with gender identity and how it would affect your magical ghost powers and that is just so awesome.

Fable by Adrienne Young-
Release Date: September 1st, 2020
Pirates! Pirates! Pirates! Okay, I’m calm. Sort of. I love Adrienne Young and her books. Granted I only read one so far but it was so good that I have no doubt I will love all her work. This one deals with pirates (in case my chant didn’t give it away), and a young woman trying to take her rightful place by her father’s side. Only the father seems shady. Well, in the blurb he seems shady. Also, he dumped his daughter on a dangerous island with no supplies or weapons so he’s shady. Okay, he’s definitely shady. I need to stop saying shady before my brain explodes.

Night Train by David Quantick-
Release Date: September 29th, 2020
Is a train carriage full of the dead something that appeals to me? Yes. Sign me up. Except not really because I’ll be scared and not cope well. But like, in fiction form sign me up. There is also a woman with amnesia on the train full of the dead, and she doesn’t know who she is or how she got there. Okay, I’ll go along with it. I have some ideas about the plot, but I hope I’m wrong and that the author will shock me. Not that my ideas are bad, but if I came up with them they would not be a surprise when reading a book.

Battle Ground by Jim Butcher-
Release Date: September 29th, 2020
Okay, so this is book seventeen in a series. I have been reading the series for a long time. I was forced to wait five years between books. The year of our Lord (Lord of your choice, or Lady) 2020 might be a disaster of biblical proportions, but at least it gave me two new Harry Dresden books. The series follows a wizard PI in Chicago, and he is a smart-ass on my level. Also, character development in this series is amazing. Go read it. Seriously it’s a great series.
The Other Side of the Sky by Amie Kaufman and Megan Spooner-
Release Date: September 8th, 2020
This one should be amazing. It is a love story between a SciFi prince and a Fantasy goddess. This is the authors’ description. I am very excited about the mixture of the two genres, especially they play so well into echo other, but rarely get put together. I also gathered that the two lovebirds are not allowed to touch ever. So I am expecting a lot of yearning glances, intense stares, and just a lot of drama. I can’t wait. Everything I’ve read by these authors has been amazing so my hopes are high.

Legendborn by Tracy Deonn
Release Date: September 15th, 2020
This sounds like urban fantasy at it’s finest. Our heroine witnesses a demon attack and gets pulled into a secret society of demon fighters called The Legendborn. We also have a mysterious mage trying memory wipes, and a murdered mother. I cannot ask for more in a book. Honestly, it sounds so good. I can’t wait for my preorder to come in. I am so excited. Once again the cover is a work of art, Charlie Bowater is an absolute art goddess and I wish I was talented at that level.

The Traitor Queen by Danielle L. Jensen
Release Date: September 1st, 2020
This is the second book in a fantastic romance fantasy series. The tagline is “What if you fell in love with the one person you'd sworn to destroy?” and I, of course, was ready to jump on board after that. I have a weakness for the “enemies to lovers” storyline and I do not hide my weakness. Anything with that trope in it will have me intrigued. This series is seriously amazing and seriously underrated. Please go read it. Please.

To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini
Release Date: September 15th, 2020
The book is over 800 pages. How great is that? I love big books. This one is a SciFi, with mysterious alien artifacts that get awakened by our heroine during a routine survey mission. I want to know what that artifact does, I want to know where it came from. I also read something about war erupting. I’m up for war erupting. Fictional war only. Let me make that very clear, I am only excited about fictional war. This is the first SciFi novel by the author of a bestselling fantasy series. I have high hopes because I read his previous work and loved it.

The Silvered Serpents by Roshani Chokshi
Release Date: September 22nd, 2020
I have yet to read the first book in the series. Someone fix me. Yes, this is another sequel I am putting on the list because of my hope for loving it. I know the story focuses on found family, friendship, heists, and history. I love all of those things. There is also romance but I am doing my best to not spoil myself about any of that. I want to have some surprises. The first book takes place in Paris (YES!), and this second one takes place in Russia (YES!). The setting makes me want to read the books even more. Oh, I think there are also secret societies.
Well Played by Jen DeLuca-
Release Date: September 22nd, 2020
I never realized I wanted a romantic comedy set at a Renaissance Faire until I found out about this series. It is such a cute idea! I personally love Renaissance Faires (because I am a nerd) so the idea that two people could fall in love in that atmosphere appeals to my cold dead heart. This is a second book in the series but I believe these can be read separately.

The Trouble with Peace by Joe Abercrombie-
Release Date: September 15th,2020
Let’s all say hello to another sequel. Joe Abercombie is a well-established fantasy author, and this is yet another of his series. I have yet to read most of them… but when has that stopped me from being excited about something. Plus the titles of these books are genius and make me smile despite their dark nature. I am a simple soul.
A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik-
Release Date: September 29th, 2020
A magic school, that will kill you if you fail. Okay than! I am in, once again only fictionally in because I would die in real life and I have books to read. Although maybe this school has a library… Hmm… okay, I’ll take the risk for the library. I read Naomi Novik’s dragon series and loved it so I know I enjoy her writing. I also enjoy magic schools. There are monsters in the hallways that could eat you. You are not allowed friendships or attachments. Everything is about power and success. Can I just get this book now?

Skyhunter by Marie Lu-
Release Date: September 29th, 2020
Marie LU is one of the writers I will read anything from. Her newest novel takes place in a world at war with only three kingdoms still holding out against takeover. The people on the losing side get turned into war beasts. Our main character is part of a group fighting these beasts and holding out against takeover. I have loved everything I read by the author so I am sure I will like this book as well. Plus look at the cover and weep.

A Rogue of One’s Own by Evie Dunmore-
Release Date: September 1st, 2020
This is another sequel, this one in a series of historical romantic comedies. It follows a group of suffer rates determined to take over a publishing house and start overthrowing the Parliament. I have not read the book so my description might be completely off. I just know these ladies have gotten an Oxford education and are doing their best to bring about social change while falling in love. So I want to read their stories.
The Bone Shard Daughter by Andrea Stewart-
Release Date: September 8th, 2020
This sounds so good! Guys, it sounds so good. Read this one with me. We have an Emperor who has kept power by using forbidden magic for decades, but now his power is failing. We also have his daughter who will do whatever it takes to be recognized as the rightful heir to the throne. We have revolutions brewing. Forbidden magic to be learned. All the good things I love reading about. The cover is also beautiful because those marketing people know how to make me want to own a book.

Horrid by Katrina Leno-
Release Date: September 15th, 2020
This one sounds appropriately creepy. I like books being set on the east coast as that kind of atmosphere apples to me. After the death of her father the main character and her mother move back to her mother’s childhood home. It is a house full of creepy atmosphere and secrets. Secrets like a mysterious locked room for a little girl. I am not sure what is going on and neither is our main character. Let’s do this

The Lost Book of the White by Cassandra Clare
Release Date: September 1st, 2020
As some of you know I am obsessed with Cassandra Clare’s writing. I have read every single thing she has ever written, and most of her work I have read multiple times. There is just something about her writing and characters that appeals to me. Of course, I am looking forward to her newest book. This one follows our favorite warlock Magnus Bane and many other characters. I do not want to say more because I am trying to avoid spoilers for those of you who have yet to read the books. Please go read the books.

Tools of Engagement by Tessa Bailey
Release Date: September 22nd, 2020
Here we have another romantic comedy, we all need romantic comedies in our lives and I love them just as much as I love creepy things. This one is a third (and final I think) book in a series. This love story takes place over another thing I love: a house remodel. I am now doing a happy dance on my bed and my dog is judging me.
To Tell You the Truth by Gilly Macmillan-
Release Date: September 22nd, 2020
A mystery writer with a missing brother and childhood trauma? Sounds like a great unreliable narrator to tell me a story. If I had a villain cape and a white cat I would be making full use of them right now. Alas, I just have a keyboard. This author has a few other books I want to read, and have yet to get to. This one though pulled me in by invoking the writer narrator.

One by One by Ruth Ware-
Release Date: September 8th, 2020
I always wanted to go to a mountain chalet, but the premise of this book makes me rethink my desires. I do not want to be snowed in. I do not want to be stuck there with my untrustworthy coworkers. I do not want to be in an environment that induces rivalry that leads to murder. I just might want to write and read about murder. I am so excited about this book. I can’t wait to get my greedy paws on it.

Anxious People by Fredrick Backman
Release Date: September 8th, 2020
I have read one other book by this author, and I enjoyed it. This one sounds great. It’s about a crime that never took place, a would-be bank-robber who disappears, and eight anxious strangers. I am already living for this premise. It sounds amazing. I have also found that I tend to enjoy books written by Scandinavian authors (this one being Swedish).

Piranesi by Susanna Clarke-
Release Date: September 17th, 2020
Okay so, sit back and enjoy storytime with Anna. I have been meaning to read this author’s other book, Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, for years now. I have not because I am afraid of it. Now she is coming out with another book, which sounds just as magical and amazing and I am also scared of it. Is it going to stop me from reading it eventually? No, it won’t. Our main character (someone kindly let me how to pronounce that name) lives in a labyrinthian house with statues and oceans imprisoned in the hallways. The description alone is a thing of beauty.

The Shadow Crosser by J. C. Cervantes-
Release Date: September 1st, 2020
Here we have a final installment in a trilogy, which means I can now read it without fear of being left with a cliffhanger. This is part of the Rick Riordan Presents imprint which brings us Middle-Grade Own Voices mythology stories. I am in love with everything that has come out of this imprint so far. This trilogy deal with Mayan mythology, which is mythology and culture I feel does not get enough attention. There is so much we, by we I mean me, don’t know. I am looking forward to finding out.
The Left-Handed Booksellers of London by Garth Nix
Release Date: September 22nd, 2020
I am left-handed. I also have been known to be a bookseller. I have studied abroad in London. Ergo: this book is about me. I read the words “extended family of magical fighting booksellers” and was ready to sell my soul for this book. It also takes place in the 1980s, and I don’t know how I feel about the period but everything else is screaming at me to read the book. So I will hopefully read the book very soon.

The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman-
Release Date: September 22nd, 2020
I just love the idea of a group of people getting together and calling themselves a Thursday Murder Club in a retirement village. I love it so much. I have a sneaking suspicion my friend Hayley and I will start this club when we are of a certain age. This group of people finds themselves with a first live case on their hands when a local developer gets murdered. I’m ready to solve the murder. Invite me to your club.

I will wrap it up here. There you have twenty-five September releases to look forward to. I counted again and was not shocked at my total. I hope you have found something on this list that appeals to you and your reading tastes. I am very excited for this fall and all the books coming at me.
See you all tomorrow when I go over the books I’ve read in August and my plans for September. I can’t wait to gush.
