November Wrap Up and December Plans

November Wrap Up and December Plans

Hello, book dragons.

November has been a crazy month of crazy. I don’t remember what I did but I know I did things because I somehow passed my grad school classes. Yay me! it is also now the second week of December and I have postponed posting this because I could not take a good picture to save my life. there shall be no picture. I will find a general one on google. That is how far I have descended on the productivity spectrum.

As for NaNoWriMo… yeah I think I’m going to move that to January. Who thought November was a good slow writing month? I’m aiming for January to get the heavy lifting done on my project but I plan to confine working on it moving forward into December. That’s the plan at least.

Okay now about the books. I have read more books than I planned to read… but they were not the right books according to the TBR. Without further ado, here are the books I have read in November

  • Labirynth Lost by Zoraida Cordova- this was a school assignment. I have read it. It was good. I have some thoughts I will share at a later date but I have enjoyed it.

  • The Rise and Fall of Ancient Egypt by Tody Wilkinson- why did I read this? I have no idea. I was not researching anything. I just put the audiobook on and let it go to the end.

  • From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L Armentrout- well hot damn. I loved this book so much. I read it slowly to savor it. I didn’t want it to end. Books ending when I love them is the worst thing.

  • Guild Hunter 1-6 by Nalini Singh- I reread them because I… felt the need to feel comfortable and safe. I have read these already and so I knew what I was in for. I just love this world

  • Archangel’s Sun by Nalini Sigh- I devoured the book in one day. I didn’t plan to read it that fast but I couldn’t stop. So now I am having to wait at least a year for the next installment. Why do I make myself suffer?

Here we are. These are all the books I have read in November. I think I did okay reading-wise even though I did not get to the last two books on my TBR.

That brings me nicely to my December reading plans. I have a bit more of an ambitious TBR. I have no classes in December. I have two weeks off work. I should get a lot of reading done. I say now as I write this in the dark. Anyway, here is the list

  • The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden- I already stated this. I love it so far. I just didn’t finish it in time to count it as a November read. It feels like such a perfect winter book. The atmosphere is on point.

  • The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab- okay I’m doing this. This book is getting read. It has been one of my most anticipated releases of 2020 and so I want to read it in 2020.

  • A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness- I have started this before and loved it. I ended up putting it down due to finals a few years ago, and never picked it back up. But I have a willing victim, I mean companion, for a Buddy read so it’s happening.

  • Well Met by Jen DeLuca- I’m doing some contemporaries this month. Who would have thought? But I think I need some lighter, funnier books to offset the heavier reads. Hopefully, the balance will do me good.

  • The Hating Game by Sally Thorne- again this is my attempt to add some balance to my reading. This sounds so fun and I hope the fun will make me happy. A happy Anna is a more productive Anna.

  • The Duke and I by Julia Quinn- this one is here purely due to the show coming out on Christmas Day. I have read this series before (I read it twice all the way through and individual books when I felt like it) so it’s just a refresher for my brain.

  • Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston - this one got added because I found out my favorite book podcast bitches are covering it. I’m not sure if they made this info public so I’m not naming them but I’ll bring them up again I’m sure. Anyway, this fits my contemporary kick perfectly.

  • Heir of Fire by Sarah J Maas- speaking of heavy… yeah this book will hopefully get read in December. I need to keep moving along with my series and this is one of them I’m trying not to slack on.

  • Inheritance by Christopher Paolini - this is a series finale. It’s important to finish things- I whisper to myself as I nervously eye all the unread books on my shelves. Dragons for the win everyone!

  • A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens- I had to put at least one Christmas book on the list. This is short so I can get it done in a few hours.

  • The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman- I have read this series back in middle school but it’s been so long. I want to read it now because it’s very much a winter book and I need to read some of those in the winter. Plus talking polar bears. Can I have a talking polar bear?

  • The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary- okay so I wasn’t going to read this because of the many negative and mixed reviews I’ve seen, but I feel like it’s only fair to try a book for myself before I decide. So I got it from the library.

  • Elinor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman- once again I’ve meant to read this for years but I have not. I have a copy of the book sitting on my shelf so there is no reason not to read it. I also want cozy this holiday season.

  • Wicked Saints by Emily A Duncan - once again the ultimate winter vibes are coming. Or so I have heard. I have not read this one but I have high hopes. These books seem so atmospheric, dark, and cool. I want to know.

  • Prisoner of Azkaban by She Who Shall Not be Named- I have many mixed feelings about Harry Potter right now. Sadly for me, I have had a relationship with these nooks for years. I am not buying any new Harry Potter items. I want to read Prisoner of Azkaban because it was my favorite of the series and these books were always my go-to during the holidays. So we shall see what happens.

Alright, here we are. I think this is an interesting mix of books I have on the list. I’m attempting to mix it up to give my brain some time to process. fantasy takes a longer time to process than a contemporary rom-com. So hopefully it’s a good plan.

Do you have strategies to prevent reading exhaustion? I’m open to suggestions! I love the suggestions.

This is it for now. I will see you next time book dragons!
