5 Exciting New Book Releases for Feb 9th
Hello fellow Book Nerds,
I am bringing you another set of new releases that have caught my eye for this week.
Once again, I did my best to have some variety in the type of books I picked, while still not sacrificing my interest in the story.
A Lady’s Formula for Love by Elizabeth Everett- starting with a historical romance. I have been reading a whole lot of these lately because the world is not a nice place and I am assured I will get a happy ending here. This one I focused on a group of secret lady scientists in London working for the Crown! I am in! This is such a brilliant concept, it brings some love to the brilliant minds of women that are so often overlooked by history, and mixes it up with a happy ending for them. Genius lady scientists deserve love too. In Victorian London no less!
The Gilded Ones by Namina Forna- I have been waiting for this book for ages. It was originally meant to have been published in mid-2020 but got pushed back to now due to the Covid delays. I was lucky enough to have received an ARC from Fiaryloot ages ago, and I can say that what I read of this book (about 100 pages) has been great. The book follows a girl who has gold blood and can either die in her village or join an army of near-immortal girls like her who are fighting for the empire. Oh and it’s Voices. Oh, and it features a black girl on the cover. Oh, and I read other reviews that say it’s fantastic. Needless to say, I’m excited and since I already started the book I can proceed onwards with my excitement.
The Witch’s Heart by Genevieve Gornichec- I am very excited about this book, but I also live in fear of this book. It sounds like it will be everything I love. A banished witch punished for refusing to tell the future to Odin falls in love with Loki. There are so many things to explore in this story. So much this book could say. I only hope that it lives up to the excitement levels I am feeling for it.
Having said this I will probably take forever to read it out of fear of letdown. Please don’t listen to my skeptical inner voice though. This book sounds absolutely beautiful, and the cover stole my heart.
We Are the Ashes, We Are the Fire by Joy McCullough - Okay I am normally not one for novels in verse but the description of this one, and the topic have me tearing up already. The story focuses on a girl who deals with the aftermath of her sister’s rape and her desire for revenge against the rapist. I read the description and I fully expect to sob most of this book. It is also inspired by a 15th-century French noblewoman and knight Marguerite de Bressieux, who sought justice for rape victims. I will be off researching her as soon as I have some free time. She sounds amazing.
The Good Girls: An Ordinary Killing by Sonia Faleiro- Here we have a nonfiction/ true crime book. I always feel a little strange calling something just a true-crime when it seems to be dealing with the larger world in which the crime takes on context and texture. This book explores the world in which two teenage girls can be brutally murdered and hung from trees yet become collateral damage in a world that views them as unimportant. This book explores a case from India, which I have never read before but I am ready to learn more. I already learned that India requires victim names to be changed in certain cries. I think this one will make me cry too.
Here you have it. My five books to be excited about this week. I am enjoying finding the titles for these. I am forced to expand my horizons beyond my reading comfort zone, and as a result, find so many interesting stories that can really contribute to me as a person. I hope at least one person out there is finding these useful too.
